An A.I. Companion That Limits Our Abilities Online

Concept

SAVR A.I. tests the proliferation of cloud memory and how in today’s world of ubiquitous storage technology, we no longer need to worry about our physical devices running out of memory. Whether its saving our documents and files or working on documents in the browser, we rely on the cloud to hold everything we create. SAVR A.I. uses artificial intelligence to rebuke this promise by forcing it’s author to abide by the rules of writing, grammar, and spelling in order to progress with their document. As A.I. evolves from personal assistants to utilitarian devices and companions, the chances that it could engender its own sense of morality and cognitive rigidity are increasing daily. SAVR A.I. is a precursor to how these devices could eventually work to not only our favor but also to enhance our frustration.

System

SAVR A.I. exists as an open source add-on to the popular word processing software, Google Docs. The add-on checks for spelling and grammatical errors and limits the ability to save the document if errors are present in the document. If spelling errors exist, users will see a dialog box pop up saying “Unable to Save Document” with a list of the errors that they have made.  In order to save, all errors must be corrected.
